SPECIFICITY In Your Resume Will Get You More Call-Backs !

Filed under: Job Interviewing, Job Search, Resume Writing, Self Help, Working With Recruiters — Cindy Hazen @ 6:19 pm

If there is ONE interview tip I put at the top of the list, it is being SPECIFIC on your achievements. So many people put generic statements on their resume such as "I consistently exceeded goal or quota", "At the top of the sales team", etc.

What does this mean? Did you exceed quota by 5% or 105%? Where exactly were you in the rankings- #2 or #15? Out of how many reps?

People believe specific numbers many times more than general numbers. If you say was over 100% of budget, that is general. If you state that you were at 142% of quota, that’s many times more believable.

When you state your rankings, state "#2 sales rep out of 45 nationwide".

When you list growth, state "Grew territory from $500,000 to $2.5 million in 5 years".

I think you see the pattern. List your achievements in SPECIFIC terms and you will get more callbacks on your resume.

Filed under: Job Market Trends, Job Search — Cindy Hazen @ 12:13 am

Research by Money Magazine and Salary.com have listed the Top Jobs for parents returning to work.

On this list, Sales Representative was one of the Top 5 Jobs. They gave it an "A" for flexibility and family friendly. And there is an expected  14% growth in the next 10 years- above many other industry growth factors.

As most of us know, sales is a great career choice- IF you have the right fortitude, attitude and magnitude to do the groundwork to be successful.

ALWAYS Leave Your Phone Number

Filed under: Self Help, Working With Recruiters — Cindy Hazen @ 12:06 am

For the umpteenth time, I have received a voicemail requesting a call back WITHOUT the caller leaving a phone number ! This happens to me at least twice a week. To me, it is preumptous to assume that whomever you are calling has your number right in front of them so they can call you back. The onous is on the receiver of the call to go look up your number so they can call you back at your request. I personally find this annoying. Worse, many times, I have received these calls while in my car or out of town and I don’t have your phone number with me. Several of these calls were labeled urgent. Obviously, I cannot call you back if I don’t have your number.

I ALWAYS leave my number and I leave it twice- at the beginning of the call and again at the end. That way, if the person called has listened to the entire message and determines at the end of the call that they do indeed need to call you back, they can replay the message and have your number at the beginning.

And PLEASE say your number SLOWLY when you call. I have received at least three messages in the past year that I truly could not make out the number. I played them back at least 3 times and just couldn’t decipher the numbers. And what has happened several times was that their cell phone cut out JUST as they were leaving their number. I’ll get part of it but two numbers were lost in the drop out time. So, leaving it twice insures that your full number is received.

If you want call backs, you’ll use this advice and I can insure you will have more callbacks than you are currently receiving.
